Land and former Odd Fellows building purchased for $8,000 in Patten to build new health center. Building demolished at no charge.

Faction of local residents petition to oppose construction.

KVHC becomes a Medicare Certified Rural Health Clinic.

1976

February Licensed by Department of Health and Welfare as extension of outpatient services for HRH, making KVHC eligible for third party payments such as Blue Cross, Blue Shield, Medicare and Medicaid.

June Houlton Regional Hospital opens.

1974

Local citizens must travel 35 miles to receive health care in Millinocket or Houlton.

Local residents commence fundraising to establish a community health center.

Fundraising activities include dinner/dance, bean hole bean suppers, auctions.

Katahdin Valley Health Center (KVHC) incorporated

Receive U.S. Office of Health, Education and Welfare grant for $43,000 to staff community health center.

December 1 Board of Directors holds Open House for new health center located in storefront behind Merrow’s Department Store on Katahdin Street in Patten.

December 2 KVHC Medical Health Center opens in Patten with three exam rooms, two physician assistants and a registered nurse.
